A lot of things change when the weather gets warm. One of them is how we eat. No one wants to be loaded down by a heavy meal in their stomach. Here are some ways to adjust your eating so that you get optimum nutrition without being too full.

We eat to live. But, what do we eat? Nutrition doesn’t change from winter to summer but how we obtain that nutrition might. When the weather gets warmer, we want our meals to be as light as our clothing. But, can we still feel full when we eat lighter fare?

The answer is yes, if you know what foods are good for you to consume. You don’t have to sacrifice density of nutrition for satisfaction. Here are some kinds of food that are good for eating in the summertime.

Food Choices for Summertime Eating

1. Salads

Salads

Not everyone wants to eat “rabbit food,” and you don’t have to. Salads have come a long way these days and they are more satisfying than ever. Start with your favorite lettuce. Add the raw vegetables that you like. Raw mushrooms can resemble meat in texture. Don’t forget the cheese and nuts. How about boiled eggs? They provide a protein source. Lean chicken, turkey or ham can round out the salad. This type of salad is sure to fill you up. Go easy on the dressing for fewer calories.

2. Lettuce Wraps

Lettuce Wraps

Lettuce wraps offer a refreshing and cooling effect, making them an ideal choice for those seeking a lighter, more refreshing meal option during hot summer days. They provide a satisfying crunch and can be filled with a variety of nutritious ingredients, such as lean proteins, colorful vegetables, and zesty dressings, creating a refreshing and balanced meal that keeps you energized without weighing you down.

3. Smoothies

Smoothies

When you don’t have time to sit and munch this summer, a smoothie can provide filling nutrition in a fun way. In addition to the refreshing addition of ice, you can incorporate ingredients like yogurt, frozen fruit, raw veggies, and oatmeal to add density and flavor.

To maximize the protein content and create a satisfying meal replacement or snack, consider adding a scoop of whey or collagen protein powder. These protein sources contribute to muscle repair and growth, supporting an active lifestyle and helping you stay energized throughout the day. By combining the goodness of fruits, vegetables, and protein powder, smoothies become a convenient and delicious way to nourish your body during the summer season.

4. Cold Soups

Cold Soups

Ever eaten gazpacho? It is a cold tomato-type soup popular in Southern Europe. Cold soups can provide good nutrition without overheating your body when the weather is warm.

5. Fruit Salad

When you want a snack that is both refreshing and nutritious, a mixed fruit salad is an excellent choice, especially during the summer when a wide variety of delicious fruits are in season. Not only do these summertime fruits satisfy your sweet cravings, but they also offer a range of health benefits.

For instance, berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are packed with antioxidants that help combat oxidative stress and promote overall well-being. Watermelon, with its high water content, helps keep you hydrated while providing vitamins A and C.

6. Grilled Veggies

Grilled Veggies

Vegetables can sometimes be perceived as boring, but during the summer, there are numerous ways to make them more enticing while enjoying their abundant health benefits. Grilling vegetables is a fantastic technique that adds smoky flavors and a delightful char, transforming them into a delectable addition to any meal. Whether you use them on kebabs or in a grill basket, grilled vegetables offer a burst of flavors and textures that can excite your taste buds. Moreover, this cooking method helps retain the vegetables’ nutritional value by minimizing nutrient loss and preserving their natural goodness.

7. Nuts

Nuts

Nuts, including cashews and pecans, are not only convenient for on-the-go snacking but also offer a wealth of health benefits due to their nutritional composition. Cashews are an excellent source of healthy fats, primarily monounsaturated fats, which contribute to heart health by helping to lower LDL cholesterol levels. They are also rich in minerals such as magnesium, copper, and zinc, which support various bodily functions, including bone health, immune system function, and metabolism.

Nuts are a great summer snack due to their portable nature, providing a convenient source of energy and nutrition for outdoor activities.
